- Do not make any effort to ventilate the affected area. Although you may be eager to clear the space out of the smell, this can introduce different particulates from the environment into the are and produce an inaccurate test result.
- Do not move furniture, attempt to remove affected wallpaper that is peeling, carpet that is affected, etc. Moving anything in the affected area can allow spores to be released into the area. If there is furniture in the room, do not relocate it to another area. Mold can live on organic surfaces such as fabric and you may be moving the mold to another area in your home along with the furniture.
- Do not clean the area. Although you may want to get the old out of there quick and employ bleach or cleaning products. Hold off until the mold is tested and you are told what type of mold it is and how to effectively eliminate it by a professional.
